Do Not Fit In
It can be weird, scary and exhilarating all at once. Nothing can ever prepare you for self actualisation. Yet, strangely, you feel as though it is not such a surprise.
While the day on which it becomes a reality is different for everyone, that soft familiar voice you hear whispering to your spirit ‘at last!’ as it almost punches the air in triumph, is experienced by all. And why do we also feel a wave of emotional relief? As we confirm to ourselves silently and graciously ‘I knew it’.
Who’s voice is that? This is the same voice that has patiently and steadfastly pursued and guided us towards this stage of understanding, for most of - if not all - of our lives. This is the voice that guided you as a small child, telling you to hold onto your dreams, no matter what. This too is the voice which commanded you to stand up to those bullies and haters in your teenage years - who always seemed to single you out because you did not fit in - and for sure this is the very same voice that consoled you and gave you reassurance that everything will work out for the best, when friends and family members turned their backs on you in your time of need. This voice belongs to you.
You are the voice that knew. Deep within your core, you knew all along who you were, but somewhere along the way you took the wrong turn ( like we all have ) and strayed off your path. You got so distracted by the temptations of life that you temporarily forgot your truth.
All those times when you felt you were merely on the outside of life looking inwards at yourself, now you realise that you actually were. The true authentic you was lovingly guiding your every step, every slip and fall. Every setback and pitfall was carefully monitored, registered and filed away as another brick towards rebuilding your wall of resilience, determination and strength of character. This was all part of the bigger picture of life and self discovery. A pretty and enticing picture protected by a universal glowing frame. A masterpiece of work, skilfully crafted and fashioned into a body mind and soul of art, beautifully blemished to perfect imperfection which produced the mutable, adaptable and remarkably individual creation of you.
Your reluctance to fit in as someone who you simply are not, must be celebrated, as you are one of the lucky ones. Many people go through their entire life existing as only a version of themselves, which has been manufactured by society and their own fractured beliefs that they are only a regular bird, from a flock which fly together, rather than increase their wing span to become the eagle, and soar to limitless heights.
There cannot be anything worse for a human being to arrive at the close of their life having never stepped forwards as their authentic selves and showed the world their full glory. The only thing worse than that realisation is to honestly know you are designed to stand out, but through fear you decide not to do so, and deprive both yourself and the world of your gift of uniqueness.
